yesterday was something ridiculous like eighty degrees out. i celebrated by spending the day indoors at work. george spent the day installing new door panels in the rabbit which he found at a vw parts place a half hour north of here for wicked cheap. we're pretty excited. the guy who owned it before us had cut holes in the existing panels to accomodate speakers and then the stereo stopped working so he took the speakers out but the holes remained. george also got a few new motor mounts hoping that by replacing them the car would stop shaking so much. he and andy got one installed but it didn't seem to help, he was disappointed.
we let the cats out last night to wander around and they had some fun.. they don't really leave the driveway which is pretty okay with us. while they were out they met our neighbor cat rusty again and were introduced to whiskey the mean cat who hangs around. there was also a gray cat but he/she chose to remain far from the action. whiskey is a bully; he kind of charged at boy three or so times. rusty just backed away from boy - he didn't want a fight, he just wanted to sit in his driveway. boy managed to weasel his way into johann and michelle's house a few times and i managed to shoo him out - though michelle would just as soon kept him (johann won't let her get a cat.)
then we biked downtown for some gelato and to walk around. everything was going fine until i walked into a fire hydrant. that's right. california for the most part believes that bigger is better and this includes their take on fire safety. in my experience, fire hydrants usually have two spouts for the water but not here, they have three and one (apparently the one the sticks out into the sidewalk) is bigger and meaner and attacks people. i have one good size lump and one mean bruise on my knee.
we came home and played scrabble. then i finished reading my book,
a complicated kindness and george did more rabbit research.
today i'm making croutons. george went to work.
